The seventh edition of the European Civic Academy (ECA) will take place on 14 November 2024. This year, ECA is being hosted by The Nonviolence Factory (TNF) – an annual event in Barcelona organised by NOVACT, with the theme “Defending Human Rights. Confronting Authoritarianism.”

TNF is an annual training school and meeting place focused on promoting strategies to confront authoritarianism and defend human rights and democracy in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

It connects and resources movement-builders, frontline communities, community organisers, human rights defenders, public sector actors, artists, and democracy advocates working in diverse geographic and cultural contexts.  

This year’s Nonviolence Factory will focus on mass surveillance and the use of new technologies to control civil society and shrink human rights defender’s work. ECA 2024 will consist of a series of closed-door panels and workshops focusing on security politics, (digital) authoritarianism and surveillance capitalism.
