- Governance and civil society inclusion – nobody is really leading on this, it’s an area that would need more work. I don’t really have reading to suggest besides some Euractive articles mentioning this (here, here2, whatever leading MEP Tudorache says is about this)
- Privacy Camp 25th January: it is an annual conference organised by EDRi, which brings together digital rights advocates, activists as well as academics and policy-makers from all around Europe and beyond to discuss the most pressing issues facing human rights online. This year’s topic is Critical.Digital.Crisis. I think it will be a good opportunity for your colleague to start getting acquainted with the topics and get to know some of the civil society working on the topic. - RightsCon, 5-8 June. Organised by Access Now, RightsCon is the world’s leading summit on human rights in the digital age. It will take place in Costa Rica but some events will take place remotely.
EUROPEAN COMMISSION
In April 2021, the Commission presented its AI package, including its proposal for a regulation laying down harmonised rules on AI (AI Act) and relevant Impact assessment.
COUNCIL OF EU
The French Presidency of the Council of EU presented a compromise document on the AI Act.
EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
The ENVI Committee presented its opinion report in April 2022, followed in July 2022 by the ITRE and TRAN committees.

In today’s AI Act vote, MEPs failed to protect society at large, not to mention vulnerable groups like migrants and refugees, and voted against measures to introduce proper complaints and representation systems for human rights violations.
