The Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE) is an opportunity for European citizens to debate and have a say on Europe’s challenges and priorities. The EU institutions have committed to listen to Europeans and to follow-up, within their sphere of competences, on the recommendations made. By Spring 2022, the Conference is expected to reach conclusions and provide guidance on the future of Europe.

Created and coordinated by Civil Society Europe, the Civil Society Convention on the Future of Europe brings together 82 European networks and platforms with constituencies all over Europe, connecting millions of individuals engaged in many aspects of life, from education to culture, social inclusion, environmental environment, governance, and transparency.

The Convention, founded in February 2021, actively engages in scrutinising the democratic functioning of the Conference #CoFoE and ensuring genuine involvement of citizens and representative associations in this process. It provides links between what is discussed and agreed inside institutional frameworks and people with their individual and collective aspirations. After months of hard work, the Convention received 5 seats (out of 8 for civil society) in the Plenary of the institutional Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE).

The European Civic Forum, together with its member organisations, is actively involved in the Convention since its beginning. ECF Secretary General Alexandrina Najmowicz was elected Co-Chair of the Convention, while we are also contributing in two working groups, Our European Life and The Union’s Democratic Foundation and Rule of Law.
