La Ligue de l’enseignement: Lampedusa, Starting Point of the “Ways of Europe” Project – A Journey to the Heart of Europe’s Challenges

07 July 2025 | Members' Corner

A highly symbolic location, Lampedusa embodies Europe’s contemporary challenges, particularly those related to migration and solidarity. It is therefore fitting that this place was chosen as the starting point of the “Ways of Europe” project, led by Arci Solidarietà, the Italian partner of La Ligue de l’enseignement, in collaboration with nine other European organisations.

This ambitious project aims to place citizens back at the heart of the European debate by creating spaces for dialogue, listening, and reflection across the continent. In Lampedusa, participants addressed migration issues and explored the concept of solidarity—an idea intrinsically linked to this frontline welcoming territory.

Over two days, workshops, conferences, and discussions enabled citizens from across Europe—particularly committed young ambassadors—to share their perspectives on the future of the European Union. Their voices, essential to building a shared future, will be featured in a collective advocacy manifesto being written throughout the project. This manifesto will be shaped by various transnational meetings scheduled across Europe, which serve as true exchange platforms where young ambassadors can express their vision for the Europe of tomorrow.

This first stage was marked by key moments, including meetings with local stakeholders working with migrants, as well as exchanges with students from Lampedusa high school, who took part in a documentary in which they shared their feelings and aspirations for Europe’s future.

The next stop of the project will take place in Calais and Dunkirk on September 29 and 30, coordinated by La Ligue. The event will focus on human rights and sustainability, continuing this civic journey at the heart of European values.
