Okotars: New cycle of EEA Civil Soicety Fund

Following years of absence, the new cycle of the EEA Civil Society Fund in Hungary was launched on 11 February. The programme returns to deliver nearly 23 million euro funding to the Hungarian civil society sector in the years ahead.

This is the fourth funding cycle of the EEA Civil Society Fund, with a total budget for Hungary of nearly €23 million for the implementation period from 2026 to 2031. In Hungary, the Civil Society Fund is managed by a consortium led by Ökotárs Foundation, in partnership with the Autonómia Foundation and the Carpathian Foundation–Hungary.

Three calls are now open for applications, with a total of seven calls across various thematic areas planned for publication over the next 18 months. Grants will be available for

  • organisational development (now open)

  • capacity building and networking (now open)

  • support for exercising the rights of the victims of the war and refugees from Ukraine, and countering anti-Ukraine disinformation (now open)

  • quick intervention grants for smaller actions and campaigns on current issues (expected April 2026)

  • thematic projects in 5 areas: (1) CSOs in democratic processes, (2) information security and media literacy, (3) human rights, equal treatment and social justice, (4) gender equality, (5) climate and environmental issues (expected September 2026 and March 2027)

  • youth study trips to donor countries (expected March 2027)

 

The launch event was opened by the Norwegian Ambassador to Budapest and hosted civil society organisations from Norway and Icealand and presented partnership opportunities also with the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) and Ekopolis, lead partner of the Fund Operator consortium of the EEA Civil Society Fund in Slovakia.
