More than 500 organisations representing Europe’s cultural, media, and civil society sectors have signed a joint letter calling for a substantial increase in funding for the AgoraEU programme in the next long-term EU budget.
AgoraEU is envisaged as a dedicated funding instrument for culture, independent media and journalism, audiovisual media, and civil society organisations. But despite its strategic importance, the programme currently represents only approximately 0.43% of the total EU budget.
With growing structural pressures and the retreat of other major funders, strong, reliable support from the EU is becoming even more important.
That’s why the signatories, led by The Future of Europe Coalition (Center for Sustainable Media, Civil Society Europe, Culture Action Europe, European Civic Forum, European Federation of Journalists, Irish Council for Civil Liberties), is urging policymakers to back proposals in the European Parliament to boost funding for the programme.
