ECF suspends activity on Twitter/X

20 January 2025 | Statement

After more than a decade on the platform, ECF has decided to suspend its activity on Twitter/X with immediate effect.

This is not a decision that we took lightly. Twitter was once an integral part of our communications – allowing us to reach individuals, policymakers and other civil society actors far and wide. However, the platform has deteriorated so dramatically that it is no longer an effective tool.

Moreover, we strongly oppose, and do not want to be associated with, the dramatic rise of extreme and false content that is spread and promoted on the platform.

In stopping our activity on Twitter/X, we are joining thousands of individuals, news organisations, and fellow civil society organisations who have already taken this step.

We are looking forward to refocusing our efforts on our other communications channels, including Bluesky, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and our mailing list.
