La Ligue renews its contribution to the annual survey on the state of social rights carried out by its European partner Solidar

On Friday 21 February, La Ligue de l’enseignement took part in the Social Right Monitor 2024 evaluation meeting organised by Solidar, the European network of civil society organisations. This network, which counts over 50 member organisations based in 26 countries, aims to advance social justice in Europe and the world through just transition.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss improvements to be made to the next edition, scheduled for the year 2025, to which la Ligue will again contribute in relation to the French situation.

The Social Rights Monitor (SRM), launched in 2019 by Solidar, aims to provide an objective assessment of the state of social rights and social justice in the countries of the participating member organisations. Based on the European Charter of Social Rights and the principles it sets out, the SRM assesses the state of particular areas of social interest such as equal opportunities and access to the labour market, social inclusion and protection, just transition and civic space.

The evaluation of these themes relies on a thorough research process that also involves interviews with three other organisations from the sectors concerned. For the 2024 edition of the SRM, ELEC interviewed the Ligue des droits de l’homme, the Centre d’entraînement aux méthodes d’éducation active (Ceméa) and the Comité national pour les relations nationales et internationales des associations de jeunesse et d’éducation populaire (Cnajep).

Each country is given a score by theme once the assessment has been carried out, to give a clear picture of the state of social rights and social justice in the country each year.

These annual editions provide an opportunity to monitor the development of respect for these fundamental rights over the long term. This is a real necessity in view of the current European political context, marked by the rise of extremes and the proliferation of nationalist rhetoric that directly threatens the fundamental rights and freedoms of civil society. The new edition of SRM 2025, in which la Ligue will be taking part, will reveal the potential improvements or deterioration in social rights in France over the past year. While you wait for the 2025 edition of the SRM, you can consult here the brochure presenting the results of the 2024 edition in English. A new project of the SRM will be to translate these results into the language of all the participating organisations.
