JUST4ALL is a European project coordinated by SOLIDAR, European partner of La Ligue de l’enseignement, in collaboration with three other organisations: AONTAS (Ireland), ABF (Sweden), and ICAR (Cyprus).
Its goal is to support and promote an ecological transition that is both just and inclusive, using adult education as the main driving force.
Stemming from an educational approach, JUST4ALL led to the creation of a MOOC specifically designed for professional trainers. This training not only helps them better understand the stakes of a just ecological transition, but more importantly, it provides them with practical tools to integrate these issues into their pedagogical practices.
The development of this MOOC required preliminary research that enabled the production of a national report assessing the state of just transition policies and programs in the countries involved in the project. In this context, La Ligue was responsible for conducting the research and writing the French national report. This report was produced based on a combination of data collection and research interviews, and is structured around four main areas:
- The impact of climate change and just transition policies and programs,
- Formal and non-formal education on climate, environment, and just transition,
- Consultation, collaboration, and coalition-building within civil society,
- Cross-border solidarity.
These areas allow for an exploration of both the overall progress in addressing climate change and socio-economic challenges in national and European policies and programs, and their concrete implications for the populations which are directly affected. This comprehensive overview highlights not only the role of formal and informal education in raising awareness about climate and just transition issues, but also the key role of civil society in putting these topics on the agenda through various advocacy and awareness-raising tools at different levels. Several ecological transition experts from La Ligue’s network fed the research with some of their insights.
Finally, this piece of research provides a critical analysis of the current state of just transition in France, as seen through the lens of education. Thus, it makes it possible to identify areas for improvement, which the design of the JUST4ALL MOOC intends to address.
